Shipping Policy
The Literate Dog fresh baked Gourmet Dog Treats currently can only be shipped to addresses within the State of Illinois. Additional states will be added in the future. Please see our About Us page for more information about the current shipping restirctions.
Shipping and Handling Charges–UPS Ground within the United States only (excluding P.O. Boxes and Alaska & Hawaii)
The Literate Bear – Delivery within 2–5 days from ship date (orders placed by 6:00 p.m. CST Monday – Friday will ship within 2 business days unless the site indicates out of stock)
The Literate Dog – All orders for Gourmet Dog Treats are bundled Monday through Friday and each order is fresh baked on Saturday and Sunday. Orders placed by 6:00 pm on Friday will be fresh baked on Saturday and Sunday and immediately shipped on Monday and Tuesday. Orders placed on Saturday and Sunday will be included with the orders from the following Monday. Due to the custom, fresh baked nature of our treats, please allow 5-7 business days for your order to ship. UPS delivery within 2 days of ship date for Illinois addresses. Items other than fresh baked dog treats can ship anywhere in the U.S. and are delivered 2-5 days from ship date.

We regret that we cannot ship Internationally or to APO/FPO addresses at this time.
All product and shipping and handling charges are subject to change.
Children should always be supervised when opening our gift packages, as many of our products will be wrapped in a protective plastic bag for cleanliness and to prevent weather damage during shipment. All protective plastic wrappings should be discarded by a grown up immediately after the package has been opened.
The Literate Bear Return Policy
In the unlikely event that you are not satisfied with the product you ordered, please contact us via phone or e-mail to receive a return authorization number. All returns must have a return authorization number. All returns must include an original packing list. Shipping charges are nonrefundable.
If you return the product within 45 days of when we shipped it to you with the original packing list that was included in the original packaging from us, you (or the sender if sender and recipient are not the same) will a receive a full refund less the original shipping charges or an exchange for other products plus new applicable shipping charges. The product must be in brand new condition with all tags (including Gund tush tags and hang tags) attached.
For returns after 45 days from when we shipped the product to you, or for products returned in less than new condition and/or with tags missing (before or after 45 days), or products returned without an original packing list (before or after 45 days), a refund will be issued less the original shipping charges and less a 50% restocking fee.
Please inspect all items at the time of receipt. Claims for damaged shipments must be filed with us within 7 days of receipt. Please contact us via phone or email immediately if your product is received in damaged condition.
We are not responsible for products that are damaged or lost on the way back to us.
Refunds will not be issued until we receive the returned product.

The Literate Dog Gourmet Dog Bakery is committed to producing top-quality, healthy and flavorful Gourmet Dog Treats. All of our Gourmet Dog Treats are 100% satisfaction and freshness guaranteed. Each individual order is fresh baked when the order is received to ensure maximum freshness and shelf life for our customers.
If you or your dog encounters a problem with our Fresh Baked Gourmet Dog Treats, or if the treats were damaged during shipping, please notify us immediately via phone or e-mail. Depending on the specific situation we may issue a full refund, or replacement of the same product. For fresh baked Gourmet Dog Treats only, shipping charges will be refunded if no replacement product is shipped. If a replacement product (Gourmet Dog Treats) is ordered, it will be shipped at no cost.
Items other than fresh baked Gourmet Dog Treats follow the same return policy outlined above for The Literate Bear.
