Torque plates are one of those things that no local shop ever seems to have for a vw, yet they are an essential part of getting that perfect cylinder. These plates simulate the head being bolted in place, loading up the block during the machining process so that when the head is in fact installed, the cylinder is perfectly true.
IE's torque plate is fully machined from 6061. It is a complete kit which also includes machined spacers which bring the total height up to exactly that of the cylinder head, so there is no need to cut down bolts. Any of the 20v style fasteners can be used with this plate. It also includes hardened steel, ground, and black oxidized washers which prevent wear to the spacers and provide even clamping force, just like the factory solution.
