Georgette authorized a few limited editions of original etchings and
lithographs made after some of his paintings. Most were made in the
studio of George Visat in Paris. The painting from which this lithograph
is derived formed part of Le Domain Enchanté, the 1953 mural suite
which was commissioned by Gustave Nellens for the Salle de Lustre in
his Casino at Knokke-le-Zoute in 1953; the paintings formed a
continuous scheme, dictated by the circular architecture of the room,
and bringing together many of the most famous of Magritte's motifs,
seen in work from as early as the 1930s; a catalogue was produced at
the same time, by Colinet and Magritte, in which Magritte listed the
earlier works that he felt had most inspired the mural paintings and
their locations, and in which Colinet produced poems that describe each
of the images; the title above comes from the poem relating to this
journée de la vie humaine.""The large birds are the ones from Treasure
Island, where the trees have no other foliage than their songs. / The
cut-out paper of the first researches is a masked and very attentive
paper. / A light radiates. We see at the same time two separate moments
in one day of human life.
